A trip to the lighthouse is a must if you are staying in Byron Bay. Constructed in 1901 it stands on the most easterly point of the Australian mainland.
The are a number of ways to get to there, either drive to the car park and take a short walk or if you are feeling energetic you can walk from the Beach hotel in the heart of Byron, its a 8km 2.5 hour trip. Walk to Watego's beach and climb the hill at the end.
