Lucky to experience a 2 day stop at the Grand Canyon on travels on the West Coast.
Start the adventure by catching the IMAX movie at the Visitor Centre which is a stop before entering the park. You can also get cheap snacks here as once you step inside the park you are limited. Prices will be higher.
When you enter the park, you will find a car park. We stopped here and this was the first view of the canyon... WOW! Awe-inspiring.
We stayed in cabins at Maswik which had a bar and restaurant. These were comfortable and were literally metres from the canyon edge!
YOU MUST get up for the sunrise. We took the free shuttle bus up to Yaki Point to greet the new day. A camera cannot capture the moment so make sure you enjoy the rich reds and the warmth on your face.
Trekking down is for the fitter traveller but you have to say you have been into the canyon even if it is only a short walk down.
I would recommend taking a Helicopter flight. The longer flight gives you a full circular of the canyon the shorter flight takes you up and down the same route. There can be quite a wait to get a flight so be prepared to wait.
The canyon is a life enhancing experience.
